The Swiss Financial Intelligence Public Private Partnership (Swiss FIPPP) is a strategic partnership between the Money Laundering Reporting Office Switzerland (MROS) and private-sector Swiss financial institutions. The focus of the partnership is on exchanging information for the purpose of the early identification of risks and threats in connection with terrorist financing and money laundering.
The Swiss financial centre is one of largest in the world: Swiss banks manage almost a quarter of all cross-border assets. Money laundering and terrorist financing are therefore not just a threat to Switzerland's internal security, but can also cause lasting damage to its financial market.
Most major financial centres already have partnerships between the public and the private sectors and have had positive experiences, particularly with regard to prevention.
Aim of the partnership
The partnership focuses on the strategic analysis of the methods, trends, threats and risks of money laundering and terrorist financing in order to create indicators and typologies aimed at identifying potential threats more quickly.
Through the exchange of information and intelligence, the private and public sectors can build a common picture and understanding of financial crime risks. This enables the private sector to identify potential threats at an early stage while supporting the authorities in the areas of prevention and law enforcement.
Organisation
The Swiss FIPPP commenced its work at the plenary session on 7 November 2024. The partnership was initiated by MROS and twelve Swiss financial institutions. A plenary session of all members is planned at least twice a year. In addition, topic-specific working groups meet regularly. The activities of the Swiss FIPPP are coordinated by an executive board, whose members are elected by the plenary assembly. The needs of members are analysed on an ongoing basis; the partnership should continue to develop and grow gradually through the participation of other financial institutions.
An MROS secretariat is responsible for organisational matters and communication.
