Cooperation with countries of origin and transit is crucial to the successful management of migration flows. Switzerland takes a partnership approach in this respect and has developed numerous instruments over the years that enable it to pursue Swiss interests in migration while also allowing for various degrees of cooperation. These range from general dialogues on migration and a series of international agreements on readmission, migration cooperation, visa facilitation, visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, service or special passports, visa waiver programmes and trainee programmes, to complete migration partnerships. Migration dialogue is the least formal mode of bilateral cooperation on migration while, at the other end of the scale, a migration partnership takes a more holistic approach.
