International human rights protection

After the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was promulgated by the United Nations on 10 December 1948, ways were sought to make these norms not only morally but also legally binding. The UN and the Council of Europe then developed various instruments for protecting human rights, with the European Human Rights Convention (EHRC) being the most important for Switzerland (individual appeals before the European Court of Justice for Human Rights ECJHR). Switzerland has ratified several conventions and pacts.
