Preventive measures

A nationwide stadium ban prohibits a person from entering any football or ice hockey stadium throughout Switzerland. It is the responsibility of the individual stadium operator or the home club to impose and enforce such a ban. A stadium ban is a measure under private law. Anyone who violates a stadium ban will be reported for trespassing.
The municipal or cantonal police authorities or fedpol can recommend that the organiser of a sporting event impose a stadium ban on any individual who commits an act of violence at a sporting event, whether inside or outside the stadium.Under the Intercantonal Agreement on Measures to Prevent Violence at Sporting Events (de, fr, it) the cantons, in collaboration with the federal authorities, can take a range of police measures to prevent outbreaks of violence. The measures are aimed at identifying and suppressing violence at an early stage.
- Exclusion order
An exclusion order prohibits a person from entering or remaining in a specific area at certain times. - Obligation to report
An obligation to report requires a person to report to the police at certain times, in particular during a specific sporting event. - Police custody
Anyone who displays violent behaviour at a sporting event may be taken into police custody for a period of time.
The cantons are responsible for ordering and enforcing these measures (de, fr). fedpol can request that a municipal or cantonal police authority impose an exclusion order or an obligation to report on an individual.
- Exclusion order
fedpol can impose limited travel restrictions on individuals to prevent them from attending specific sporting events abroad. The cantons can request that fedpol impose such a travel restriction.
