International exchange
National Football Information Point (NFIP)
fedpol is Switzerland's National Football Information Point (NFIP). During international sporting events, this group of leading football and policing experts coordinates the exchange of information between the relevant cantonal and municipal authorities and international police authorities in the NFIP network.
fedpol also sits on various international committees concerned with sports-related violence, incorporating proven foreign violence response models, such as the Council of Europe's Saint-Denis Convention, into Swiss strategy.
Spotters
In the event of requests for administrative assistance at international matches held abroad, fedpol coordinates the deployment of cantonal and municipal police officers. These officers, known as ‘spotters’, are familiar with the football scene and can intervene if fans become violent. They support the local security forces by gathering intelligence, providing advice and assistance, and identifying and approaching potential troublemakers. Spotters also play a preventive role, for example by accompanying and assisting fans or by clarifying security issues with foreign authorities. fedpol deploys its expert team of spotters at international matches at home or abroad involving the Swiss national football team.
