Swiss Sports Situation Report (GSLS)

The Swiss Sports Situation Report (GSLS) is an instrument for analysing violence at sporting events in Switzerland. It provides an assessment of all matches involving teams from the top two Swiss football and ice hockey leagues.

How is the information assessed?

After each match, the police authorities, sports associations and SBB/Transport Police provide fedpol with feedback about the match, including any security-related or violent incidents that have occurred. fedpol then evaluates this information, assessing each individual match and summarising all the data in the GSLS report.

fedpol assesses the information it receives according to a specially designed assessment system. This ensures that each match is considered on its own merits. The match is then classified according to one of three categories: green, yellow and red.

Which matches are assessed?

The following categories of matches are assessed:

  • Football and ice hockey matches in Switzerland, where at least one of the competing teams is from one of the top two leagues.
  • Swiss Cup football and ice hockey matches between teams from the top two leagues.
  • Football and ice hockey matches played by the men's national teams in Switzerland.

What is the objective of these assessments?

The assessments provide factual information on incidents that occur during the various phases of a sporting event, such as travel to and from the venue, and before, during and after a match. These findings can then be used to develop and implement objective, targeted measures to ensure that sporting events are safe and peaceful.
