Counterfeit currency

The first official Swiss banknotes were printed in London in 1911 and issued by the Swiss National Bank. Following the constitution of the Swiss Confederation in 1848, a total of 36 different currencies from various regional issuing banks were replaced by one system of money. The new banknotes were transported from England to Switzerland by ship and train. Back then, as today, security measures had to be taken to provide against armed robbery and fraud.
