After completing his law studies at the University of Berne, Martin Dumermuth qualified as a lawyer in 1983 and became a doctor of jurisprudence in 1991. As a lecturer and senior lecturer, he taught constitutional and media law at the University of Berne's Department of Public Law from 1983 to 1994. For 11 years, he then managed the Radio and Television Division of the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM), making a major contribution to the revision of the Radio and Television Act (RTA). He became OFCOM's Vice-Director in 1995, and was promoted to Director on 1 March 2005. Since 2004 he has also been a visiting lecturer in radio and telecommunications law at the University of Berne. Martin Dumermuth took up his post as Director of the Federal Office of Justice on 1 November 2013.
